Harbour Sports

At Harbour we enjoy a wide range of sports and games, both within the curriculum and before and after school.

Year 6 Football

Following our previous success in the East Sussex 7-aside Albion Cup football tournament Harbour Year 6 football team took part in the finals on 16th March. This 7-aside football tournament was held at the Brighton football clubs training ground in Lancing. These games would be against the best teams from Brighton and Hove, West Sussex and the East Sussex tournament. The boys were very excited and keen to do well. We started playing against Blackboys from East Sussex, we got off to a great start and were playing well, passing and moving as a team. Ben scored after an excellent team move 1-0. We continued to dominate the game, Ben and Ollie scoring to finish clear 3-0 winners. Next we played Balfour, a Brighton and Hove team, after the kick off we got caught in possession and they scored 0-1 down. The team continued to press throughout the game going close to scoring on several occasions but finished losing 1 nil. Following this we were up against Swiss Gardens a West Sussex team. We started well and found ourselves 1-0 up. However they equalised quickly. We pushed hard throughout, going close but it ended a Draw 1-1. Next was West Park from West Sussex.  The game was very close both teams playing well. They scored to go 1-0 up. We equalised to make it 1-1 in the final minutes we had a shot saved and just missed the post the game ending 1-1. This brought our final game against Elm Grove Brighton. The boys were going for the win. We started strongly in a very even contest against a good team. A great passing move let Ben in 1-0 up. Elm Grove pressed high, stepped up and scored quickly, 1-1. We kicked off and put some great passing moves together coming close to scoring. Elm Grove challenged well won the ball, dribbled past a couple of players crossed and the resulting shot went straight in the corner of the goal. 1-2 down. We kicked off and pushed them back a great game and contest. We won a corner and from this, Ben headed a great goal 2-2. With both teams pressing for the win and playing good football the game commenced. They won a challenge in midfield a couple of passes later they were through on goal a good shot found the net 2-3 down. The boys went on the attack challenged hard and went close bringing out a good save from their keeper in the dying minutes. The game finished 3-2 to Elm Grove. Although Harbour played with team spirit, fairness and passion the results meant we finished 4th in our group. Well done team.

Year 5 and 6 Hockey Tournament

A bright and breezy morning was the setting for the year 5 and 6 Quick Sticks Hockey tournament in Eastbourne. Despite not knowing what to expect, the 12 children were eagerly anticipating a day of excitement. Both teams played 3 group games of 10 minutes with opposing fortunes. Harbour 1 enjoyed two wins (2-1 and 3-0) and one defeat (5-0).  Harbour 2’s effort and competitiveness were not matched by the results, losing 2-0, 4-0 and 2-0.   Both teams entered the quarter finals in to two separate competitions. First up were Harbour 1 who fought hard but eventually lost 2-1 to Heron Park. Harbour 2 enjoyed a dominant display against Willingdon but were unable to find the break through. After a tense extra time and penalty shoot -out, Gabe struck the winning penalty to send the children, Mr Atherton and Mrs Williams wild! With all the children cheering on, Harbour 2 took another team to extra time in the semi- final. Agonisingly, they were beaten 2-1, with the opposition scoring a golden goal in extra time. Despite the losses, all children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and their commitment and team spirit gave a glowing representation of Harbour Primary School.

Netball Tournament

On 22nd February Mrs Smith and Mrs Williams took two mixed Year 5 and 6 teams to Seahaven Academy for a netball tournament. Both teams started the tournament playing each other, finishing the game 1-1. Then they dispersed to play the other local schools.  Harbour Team 1 won all their games and Harbour Team 2 won 3, drew 2 and lost 1. Each player was outstanding, they played as a team and used their skills to out play the other teams. Even Miss Acton commented on the high standard of our teams.  When the tournament finished, everyone said how much they had enjoyed it. Our teams sat and awaited the results, Harbour Team 2 came third and Harbour Team 1 won the tournament!  We were all so proud as the children have worked so hard to get to this achievement.

Albion in the Community Tournament

On Wednesday 21st February 2018 Harbour Primary entered a 11 and under football tournament at Downs leisure centre in Seaford. It was a 6 aside yr 5 & 6 tournament run by Seagulls Albion in the community for East Sussex. The boys were very excited, confident and keen to do well. We arrived and signed in along with 10 other teams. We played our first of four games in our group. The game started quickly as the boys adjusted to playing on the AstroTurf. Rocks Park School scored 2 quick goals. Harbour played much better in the last 5 minutes coming close to scoring a couple of times. They finished losing 0-3. The team picked themselves up and with growing confidence started much quicker against Manor Primary. They played much better as a team and finished the game as clear winners 3-0. The 3rd game was against Heron Park Academy. We started off well with Ben scoring a good goal with the score at 1-1 and minutes to go Ben scored a great goal to win the game 2-1. We started the last game against St Johns Mead confident and on the front foot. With good tackling, passing and playing as a team we scored after a great move. We went from strength to strength passing and moving finishing the game clear winners Harbour 4  - St Johns Mead 0.  Onto the semi final we were up against Harland primary school. We started fast and with a great attitude, we confidently passed the ball and challenged hard defending well  and finishing clear winners 4-0 and into the final against Rocks Park school.  Both teams challenged hard, but the game finished and Rocks Park won 1-0. Harbour finished the day runners up but were through to the next tournament. Well done Harbour a great display of skill, team spirit and sportsmanship.

Cross Country

On 4th January we took thirty children to Seahaven Academy to take part in the local schools cross county competition. The conditions were very windy and the course was muddy, creating a challenge for all the children.  Despite these conditions, every child put in 100% effort and represented Harbour with pride. We had some fantastic results with Lewis Clark (Year 3) taking 2nd place, Oliver Kennedy (Year 4) taking 3rd place and Adam Ibrahim (year 4) coming in 11th place in the Year 3 and 4 tournament.  For the older year groups, Ashton Novis (year 6) came 15th and Elliott Peters (year 5) came 16th. Both will now go through to represent Harbour at the Sussex Schools Final later this month. Well done to all who took part.

 Harbour Intra Football Tournament

On a cold December Monday morning, Harbour hosted their first Intra football tournament. All six teams played with great sportsmanship. Each and every player played their part with some outstanding football skills. There were goals scored for every team, but after a close battle, at the end ‘Tekkerz Town’ won the tournament on goal difference, with Nugget Squad coming second. Thank you to all the children who took part.

Telscombe pressed hard and late on scored a breakaway goal to take the game to 2-1 to Harbour. We defended well and were unlucky not to score a third goal. Harbour played our first home game and started the game on the front foot at a high tempo with great team spirit. Their defender was caught in possession and Ben challenged winning the ball in their box and hit a low drive into the corner 1-0. Girls Football

Friday 3rd November 2017

The setting was a crisp autumnal afternoon at Seahaven academy. Our two girl teams- full of excitement and energy, made their way to the year 5/6 football tournament. Despite a lack of practice, we were confident the girls would give their all and in the process, have fun. Both teams gave everything during their 4 matches; Team Harbour A beat the eventual runners up, with Maisie  scoring a last- minute goal.  Both teams battled hard towards an entertaining draw when they played each other. The most encouraging part was the support both teams gave each other throughout. We finished the tournament 4th and 5th but myself, Mrs Smith and all parents were extremely proud of the girls. They showed everyone watching that hard work, encouragement and having fun can mean just as much as winning.

Sports Days July 2017

The children in KS2 had a fantastic day for their Sports activities and impressed us all with their efforts in events such as sack & scooter races, throwing, jumping and shooting basketballs.  Well done to Belugas class who won the upper school competition and Cormorants class who were champions of lower Key Stage 2. Congratulations!!

On our third attempt, after previously having to cancel twice because of the weather, the KS1 children finally managed their Sports morning – and it was definitely worth the wait! It was a morning full of fun and activity, thank you to Mr. Chaplin for organising it for us all.

District Sports June 2017

We had a fabulous day at District Sports on Wednesday 14th June. Our children were brilliantly behaved and looked so smart in their PE kits. It was so lovely to hear members of the public commenting on how great our children are.  Everybody tried their absolute best and if the children weren't competing in their event, they were cheering each other on - such great teamwork.  Thank you to all the adults who came along and supported us - we can't enter this without you and it's so great to have you there cheering everybody on.  Some very exciting news - two of our children now hold District Sports records. Adam Ibrahim in Y4 now holds the record for the longest throw of 29.9m and Finlay Stonehouse in Y6 has the record for the fastest boys 800m with a time of 2mins 41 seconds.  Harbour has record holders - great news!  Congratulations to the whole team - we are so proud of every one of you.

Football News Dec 16

Peacehaven Heights  V Harbour

Our last game of the season! The children were as enthusiastic and confident of a win as they have been for every game. We started well, passing and playing strongly creating good chances which were defended well by a strong Peacehaven team. We defended well with our keeper saving well on a couple of occasions. Peacehaven went 1-0 up with a well worked move and an excellent strike. The children kept attacking, Logan hitting a superb strike that was dipping under the bar bringing an excellent fingertip save from their keeper, but finished the half 1-0 down. The second half we were shooting up the hill. We defended well for the first 5 minutes but they scored 2 quick goals. Harbour kept fighting playing good football and coming close to scoring through themselves. The game finished with the Peacehaven Heights team winning. However, Harbour have improved with every game, they have shown excellent team spirit and have always been positive and keen to play. Well done - I am very proud of your attitude and have enjoyed watching you compete each week.
