At Harbour we enjoy a wide range of sports and games, both within the curriculum and before and after school.

Sports Days July 2017

KS2

The children in KS2 had a fantastic day for their Sports activities and impressed us all with their efforts in events such as sack & scooter races, throwing, jumping and shooting basketballs.  Well done to Belugas class who won the upper school competition and Cormorants class who were champions of lower Key Stage 2. Congratulations!!

KS1

On our third attempt, after previously having to cancel twice because of the weather, the KS1 children finally managed their Sports morning – and it was definitely worth the wait! It was a morning full of fun and activity, thank you to Mr. Chaplin for organising it for us all.

Nursery and Reception

The Nursery and Reception children competed brilliantly and were cheered on by friends and family. Well done to all who took part.

Jump Skip Charity Day July 2017

Jump Rope for Heart for The British Heart Foundation, our charity this year, was a great success. The children have developed their skipping skills so well and the stamina of many was incredible. They have all worked very hard to be able to join in with determination and enthusiasm. Sponsorship money collected so far is £1,833! Thank you to all the family and friends that have supported the children by donating and to the family members who helped run the event.

 Swimming Gala Competition July 2017

A big thank you to Mrs Lloyd for helping to organise the swimming gala that some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in earlier this month. Everyone gave an amazing performance and we won lots of first places and medals. Overall we achieved 3rd place which we are all very proud of.  Well done Harbour swimmers!

District Sports June 2017

We had a fabulous day at District Sports on Wednesday 14th June. Our children were brilliantly behaved and looked so smart in their PE kits. It was so lovely to hear members of the public commenting on how great our children are.  Everybody tried their absolute best and if the children weren't competing in their event, they were cheering each other on - such great teamwork.  Thank you to all the adults who came along and supported us - we can't enter this without you and it's so great to have you there cheering everybody on.  Some very exciting news - two of our children now hold District Sports records. Adam Ibrahim in Y4 now holds the record for the longest throw of 29.9m and Finlay Stonehouse in Y6 has the record for the fastest boys 800m with a time of 2mins 41 seconds.  Harbour has record holders - great news!  Congratulations to the whole team - we are so proud of every one of you.

Bikeability May 2017

A big well done to our Year 5 and Year 6 children who took part in their Bikeability training earlier this month.  The children spent the first session on the playground demonstrating their control skills.  Once they had successfully done this, the trainers from East Sussex took the children out onto the roads of Newhaven to practice.

ESCC also offer training for the Level 3 qualification. If you are interested please take a look at their website for further details.

The Big Pedal and Bike it Breakfast  March 2017

Well done to everyone who took part in Big Pedal Week.  It was great to see so many of you scooting and pedaling your way in to school every day.  We had some weird and wonderful creations on dress up your bike day!  Bike it Breakfast was also as popular as always. Thank you for coming along to support this event and to share a breakfast with your friends.

Netball Tournament! Feb 2017

Mrs Smith, Mrs Lloyd and Miss White have been working hard training thirteen Year 6 and one Year 5 child to play in a netball tournament at Seahaven Academy. After many training sessions, some learning the game from scratch, they were ready for the tournament day. Mrs Smith and Mrs Lloyd took two teams to the tournament which was a round robin against all the local primary schools. Both teams played with confidence, showing great teamwork and netball skills which made everyone so proud. Team A (Phoebe, Aimee, Kyle R, Sophia, Rhys, Tilly and Finnley P) won 5 games, drew 1 and lost 1 placing them 3rd in the tournament. Team B (Ben, Eddie, William, Drew, Tayler, Kayla and Shani) won 2 games, drew 1 and lost 4 placing them 6th in the tournament. Both teams worked so hard and represented Harbour Primary with great honours.

Cross Country

On Tuesday 10th January, Mr Chaplin, Mrs Jones and Mrs Lloyd took 21 children to Seahaven Academy to compete in a Cross Country Event.  It was a great afternoon and all of the children who raced ran extremely well.  They all completed the course, representing Harbour Primary with pride and all finished with a smile on their faces, all be it exhausted having really pushed themselves.  A special mention in the year 5 and 6 race for Amie Parker who came 3rd for the girls, Finlay Stonehouse who can 3rd for the boys and Benjamin Newman who came 10th. All three qualified for The South Downs area school games Cross Country finals which were held in the afternoon of Tuesday 17th January 2017 over a 2.5km course at the Lewes Rugby Club.   A fantastic effort, well done everyone.

Indoor Sports Competition Hailsham Nov. 16

On Wednesday 27th November 24 children took part in an indoor athletics event against 16 other schools. They children were brilliant role models for the school with their perfect behaviour. There were many different events to take part in and the children did particularly well in the speed bounce. Overall we placed 10th in the competition.

Football News Dec 16

Peacehaven Heights  V Harbour

Our last game of the season! The children were as enthusiastic and confident of a win as they have been for every game. We started well, passing and playing strongly creating good chances which were defended well by a strong Peacehaven team. We defended well with our keeper saving well on a couple of occasions. Peacehaven went 1-0 up with a well worked move and an excellent strike. The children kept attacking, Logan hitting a superb strike that was dipping under the bar bringing an excellent fingertip save from their keeper, but finished the half 1-0 down. The second half we were shooting up the hill. We defended well for the first 5 minutes but they scored 2 quick goals. Harbour kept fighting playing good football and coming close to scoring through themselves. The game finished with the Peacehaven Heights team winning. However, Harbour have improved with every game, they have shown excellent team spirit and have always been positive and keen to play. Well done - I am very proud of your attitude and have enjoyed watching you compete each week.

Girls Football Nov 16

Harbour year 5 and year 6 girls football teams competed in a tournament at Seahaven Academy. There was a good response to our trial session and we were able to enter two teams into the tournament. There were seven teams entered every team played each other. Our girls had great fun and really tried their best. The games were exciting and everyone was fully involved. Our teams finished 4th and 7th and received a certificate. We all had a great time.

Year 4 School Games Update! October 2016

Two year 4 football teams took part at an inter schools tournament today at Seahaven Academy. Both teams played with great spirit, taking on the challenge of having fun and scoring goals. Both teams played 4 games in a round robin, both winning games. They even had a great game playing each other with George scoring the first goal against his fellow teammates followed by Elliott scoring for the other side. All the players were outstanding, playing their part in each team. We also had amazing support from our parents on the sidelines. Harbour 2 came 3rd and Harbour 1 came 4th. Well done to both teams.

Bike It News September 2016

Harbour Primary appeared in two articles in the Sustrans Summer/Autumn Newsletter.

Sustrans is the charity that enables people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. They reported on BMX stunt rider Matti Hemming who visited us amongst other schools and also confirmed that we were one of only 3 schools in East Sussex to have received a Silver School Mark.

The Silver School Mark is awarded to a school that continues to demonstrate its commitment to promoting active and sustainable travel, but with much of the energy and resources coming from the school community.
