School Meals, Milk and Fruit
At lunch time our cooks and their assistants provide a choice of hot meals which are cooked on the premises. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free hot cooked meal every day. A menu is available from the school office which includes a vegetarian or baked potato option. Special diets can be catered for upon request. During terms 5 & 6 we also offer a filled baguette option. School meals must be paid for in advance either by providing payment daily in a named purse, weekly to the school office or by using the Parent Pay system.
Parents can also provide a packed lunch. Please be mindful of our Healthy Eating Policy (available on request) and ensure that you do not include products that contain nuts. Also, drinks should not be “fizzy” and come in a suitable container.
During lunchtime water is available, as it is throughout the school day. The children are also offered a glass of milk at lunchtimes.
Free school meals are available to any pupil whose parents receive certain benefits. Please contact the office for full details or visit your local Job Centre Plus.
Every child under the age of five years is entitled to a daily third of a pint of milk free. Children aged five and over can participate in the Cool Milk scheme. Milk is distributed to the children mid-morning in cartons with a straw.
Harbour Primary & Nursery School have joined the 5 A DAY school fruit and vegetable scheme, which entitles all children aged three to six to a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day. All children are encouraged to bring fruit for a mid morning snack, and we also sell fruit to children in Key Stage 2 daily.
Children may bring their own fruit to school for mid morning snacks. No biscuits, chocolate or such items are permitted.
